The men's 5000-meter run at the 1974 European Athletics Championships was held on September 6th and 8th, 1974 in the Olympic Stadium in Rome .

European champion was the British Championship -Third of 1971 over 1500 meters Brendan Foster . Second place went to Manfred Kuschmann from the GDR, who had won the 10,000 meter run six days earlier . Bronze went to the Finnish double Olympic champion in 1972 over 5000 and 10,000 meters Lasse Virén .
