Comment on the evaluation of the winning time in the third preliminary run as a set championship record:
The official times were rounded to tenths of a second. Thus Bronisław Malinowski was at his EM -record in the second flow with 8: 23.60 min namely two hundredths of a second faster than Anders Gärderud at winning the third flow. But the official time after rounding to tenths of a second was 8: 23.6 min for both runners, as was Tapio Kantanen, who was second in the second preliminary run. Gärderud equaled Malinowski's and Kantanen's records. In the final, Malinowski managed to get clear again with 8: 15.04 min - rounded 8: 15.0 min.
