The men's javelin throw at the 1974 European Athletics Championships was held on September 7 and 8, 1974 in the Olympic Stadium in Rome .

European champion was the Finnish EM fourth from 1971 Hannu Siitonen . Before the EM third in 1971, he won Wolfgang Hanisch . Bronze went to the Norwegian Terje Thorslund.
