Dave Black (athlete)

Dave Black (actually David John Black; born October 2, 1952 in Tamworth ) is a former British long-distance runner .

In 1974 he won silver over 10,000 m and bronze over 5000 m for England starting at the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch . At the Cross Country World Championships in Monza , he finished ninth and won silver with the English team. In the summer he was ninth at the European Athletics Championships in Rome over 10,000 m and eliminated over 5000 m in the preliminary run.

In 1976 he came in 26th place at the Cross Country World Championships in Chepstow and won with the English team. At the Olympic Games in Montreal, he did not get beyond the first round over 5000 m .

At the World Cross Country Championship in Düsseldorf in 1977 he was ninth in the individual standings and again won silver with the English team.

In 1978 he was fourth over 10,000 m at the Commonwealth Games in Edmonton and fifth at the European Championships in Prague .

In 1980 he qualified as the English runner-up in the marathon for the Olympic Games in Moscow , in which, however, he did not reach the goal.

In 1974 he became English cross-country champion, in 1975 over 10,000 m and 1977 over 5000 m. He was three times British champion over 10,000 m (1978, 1979, 1981) and six times Scottish champion over 5000 m (1972-1977).
