Rosemary Payne

Rosemary Payne (born Christine Rosemary Charters, second marriage to Chrimes; born May 19, 1933 in Kelso ) is a British discus thrower .

Starting for Scotland , she finished tenth at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff in 1958 and fourth in Kingston in 1966 .

A ninth place at the European Athletics Championships in Athens in 1969 was followed by victory at the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 . In 1971 she was eliminated from qualifying at the European Championships in Helsinki , and in 1972 she was twelfth at the Olympic Games in Munich .

At the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch in 1974, she won silver in the discus throw and was seventh in the shot put . In the same year she was eleventh in the discus throw at the European Championships in Rome .

As a senior athlete, she set numerous age class records. Among other things, she achieved world best performances in 2013 in the W80 age group in high jump (1.10 m), shot put (9.50 m) and discus throw (24.18 m).

Her marriage to hammer thrower Howard Payne ended in divorce.
