The women's 1,500-meter run at the 2016 European Athletics Championships was held on July 8th and 10th, 2016 in the Olympic Stadium in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam .

European champion was the Polish woman Angelika Cichocka . Second place went to the Dutch defending champion and third in the 2015 World Championships, Sifan Hassan , who also won bronze over 5000 meters at the 2015 World Championships and became vice European champion in 2014 over this longer distance . The Irish Ciara Mageean took third place.

The existing EM record was not in the slightest at risk at these European championships. In the fastest race, the second heat, a time of just under 4:10 was achieved. The final was designed as a pure lane separation with an end time of more than four and a half minutes.

Preliminary round

The preliminary round was held in two runs. The first four athletes per run - highlighted in light blue - as well as the four fastest runners - highlighted in light green - qualified for the semi-finals.
