Amela Terzić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Амела Терзић ; born January 2, 1993 in Priboj , BR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian middle-distance runner with Bosniak roots. She won the gold medal twice at the U23 European Athletics Championships and European Junior Athletics Championships , as well as the gold medal at the European Youth Olympic Festival once . In 2011 and 2012 she was chosen as the young woman athlete of the year in Serbia.

Career

Terzić made her first appearance in 2008 when she was fifteen. At that time she was second in the Balkan Junior Championships in the 800-meter run and third in the 1500-meter run . In 2009 she won the bronze medal in the 1,500 meter run at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tampere . In the same games in the 3000-meter run , she won the gold medal. At the World Athletics Championships in 2009 in Bressanone , she won the bronze medal in the 1500 meter run. She won the silver medal at the 2010 European Cross Country Championships in Albufeira . At the 2011 European Cross Country Championships in Velenje , she won the bronze medal. At the European Athletics Junior Championships 2011 in Tallinn , she won gold medals in the 1,500-meter and 3,000-meter runs. She won the gold medal at the 2012 European Cross Country Championships in Szentendre . In 2012 she won the silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Athletics in Barcelona . She won the silver medal at the 2013 European Cross Country Championships in Belgrade . At the European Athletics U23 Championships in Tampere in 2013 and 2015 in Tallinn, she won the gold medal in the 1,500 meter run. She took part for Serbia in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and reached the semi-finals over 800 meters.

At the home European championships Terzić was considered an outsider for a medal. In the run-up she set a new Serbian record, but was clearly behind in the final and ended up in eighth place. In the open-air season she qualified for the World Championships in London , where she was eliminated with 4: 08.55 minutes in advance. At the Universiade 2017 in Taipei , she won a pure track race in 4: 19.18 minutes.
