Valentin Paul Pfeil (born July 17, 1988 ) is an Austrian long-distance runner and national champion in the half marathon (2012, 2014, 2016) and over 10,000 m road run (2012) as well as on the track (2016).

Career

Valentin Pfeil has already won several national championship titles at various distances in Austria.

For the first time he represented Austria internationally at the 2008 European Cross Country Championships, where Pfeil finished 54th. In 2009 he qualified over 3000 m obstacle for the U23 European Championships. There he was tenth in the final in 8: 59.34 minutes. In December 2010, Pfeil again took part in the European Cross Country Championships in Albufeira (Portugal).

Valentin Pfeil studied veterinary medicine at the University of Veterinary Medicine, Vienna . He completed his studies in 2016 with a thesis on the subject of biographies of the elected rectors of the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna 1975-2001 with the academic degree “Mag. med. vet. ”. His parents run a veterinary clinic in Steyr , where Pfeil is also employed.

State champion 10 km and half marathon 2012

At the 2012 cross-country championship for students, Pfeil finished 33rd. In autumn 2012, Pfeil became national champion over 10 km and in the half marathon. In 2013 he won the national championships in cross and improved his 5000 m best time to 14: 03.58 min at the KBC Night of Athletics in Heusden (Belgium).

At the Salzburger Jedermannlauf in October 2014 he was Austrian half marathon champion with a time of 1:06:28 h. At the 2015 Summer Universiade in Gwangju , he finished eleventh in the 5000 m final. Pfeil is in the training group of trainer Hubert Millonig .

Marathon 2016

On April 10, 2016, he made his marathon debut at the Vienna City Marathon . With a finishing time of 2:16:37 h and a 13th place as the best Austrian, he could not achieve his goal of staying below the limit set at 2:14 h for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . In May 2016 he became national champion over 10,000 m on the track. In April 2017 he was able to finish the Vienna City Marathon as the best European in eleventh place and thus secure qualification for the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London.

In May 2018 Valentin Pfeil was nominated for the marathon team at the European Athletics Championships in Berlin (6-12 August 2018). In September 2019 Valentin Pfeil missed the qualification for the Olympics at the Berlin Marathon with 2:14:17 h.
