Pavel Henadsewitsch Barejscha ( Belarusian Павел Генадзевіч Барэйша ; English Pavel Bareisha at the IAAF ; born February 16, 1991 in Hrodna , BSSR , Soviet Union ) is a Belarusian hammer thrower .
Athletic career
Pawel Barejscha gained his first international experience at the Junior World Championships 2010 in Moncton , Canada , where he finished sixth with 73.23 m. A year later he was eliminated from the U23 European Championships in Ostrava with 65.41 m in the qualifying round. In 2014 he qualified for the European Championships in Zurich , where he finished tenth in the final with 74.73 m. At the Summer Universiade in Gwangju , Korea , he won the silver medal with a throw of 75.75 m between gold medalist Paweł Fajdek from Poland (80.05 m) and his compatriot Sjarhej Kalamojez (74.68 m) in third place . He also qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated with 71.41 m in qualification , as well as at the European Championships in Amsterdam the following year with 72.19 m. Nevertheless, he managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , in which he also did not reach the final with 73.33 m .
In 2017, Barejscha achieved second place at the European Team Championship near Lille, France, with a thrown 77.52 m, ahead of Brit Nick Miller (76.65 m) - both only had to admit defeat to the again victorious Poland Fajdek (78.29 m) . He qualified again for the World Championships in London , where he finished ninth this time with 75.86 m in the final . Two weeks later he won the silver medal at the Summer Universiade in Taipei with 77.98 m, behind the again first-placed Poland Fajdek (79.16 m) and ahead of the Moldovan Serghei Marghiev (74.98 m). In 2018 he finished fourth at the European Championships in Berlin with 77.02 m.
Barejscha was also able to distinguish himself as a hammer thrower in his home country by crowning himself the Belarusian champion in 2014 and 2015 with throwing distances of 76.52 m ( Hrodna , 2014) and 76.06 m (Hrodna, 2015). He is a student at Janka Kupala State University of Grodno .
