The men's decathlon at the 1990 European Athletics Championships was held on August 28 and 29, 1990 in the Poljud Stadium in Split .
French Christian Plaziat became European champion . The Hungarian Dezső Szabó won the silver medal. Third place went to the 1988 Olympic champion Christian Schenk from the GDR.

execution
The decathlon was carried out according to the same rules as today. The ten disciplines took place over two days.
- Day 1: August 27th - 100 m / long jump / shot put / high jump / 400 m
- Day 2: August 28th - 110 m hurdles / discus throw / pole vault / javelin throw / 1500 m
The rating was based on the 1985 point table, which is still valid today.
