Robert Změlík

Robert Změlík (born April 18, 1969 in Prostějov ) is a former Czech decathlete and Olympic champion .

Robert Změlík had slowly approached the top of the world with fourth places at the European Championships in 1990 with 8249 points and at the World Championships in 1991 with 8379 points.

At the Olympic Games in 1992 he won the gold medal with 8611 points. His greatest strengths in the individual disciplines were the long jump (over 8 m) and the 110-meter hurdles . He achieved his best performance in the decathlon with 8627 points on May 30th and 31st, 1992 at the renowned Mösle all-around meeting in Götzis with the individual performances:

100m 10.62 / 2.1 m / s tail wind - long jump 8.02 / 0.2 - shot put 13.93 - high jump 2.05 - 400m 48.73 / 110m hurdles 13.84 / 1.2 - discus throw 44, 44 - pole vault 4.90 - javelin throw 61.26 - 1500m 4: 24.83.

After the 1992 season, he could not build on his best performance again. His best placement after that was seventh place at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta with 8422 points. In this competition he was only the second best Czech, because Tomáš Dvořák came third in Atlanta.

Robert Změlík was able to attract international attention for the last time when he won the heptathlon at the World Indoor Championships in Paris in 1997 with 6228 points, after having been second at the European Indoor Championships in 1992 with 6118 points.
