James Bausch

James "Jim" Aloysius Bernard Bausch (born March 29, 1906 in Marion , South Dakota , † July 9, 1974 in Hot Springs , Arkansas ) was an American athlete and American football player .

college

Bausch studied from 1927 to 1930 at the University of Wichita and later at the University of Kansas . In addition to athletics , he played American football and basketball . With the Kansas Jayhawks , the American football team at the University of Kansas, he ran mostly as a halfback . His running skills were already evident here. In 1930 he was elected to the East-West College All-Star Game , which was played in San Francisco .

Olympic champion

He won the gold medal in the decathlon at the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles . In his third competition in the decathlon, he also set a new world record . His 8462.235 points correspond to 6736 points according to the current table from 1985.

Football pro

Bausch played in the NFL for a year . In 1933 he ran for the Cincinnati Reds and for the Chicago Cardinals . He could no longer celebrate great successes with his teams.

Honors

Bausch has been a member of the College Football Hall of Fame since 1954 and the US Athletics Hall of Fame since 1978 .
