Hugo Wieslander

Karl Hugo Wieslander (born June 11, 1889 in Ljuder , Lessebo municipality , † May 24, 1976 in Bromma ) was a Swedish athlete .

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 , he finished second in the decathlon with 688 points behind Jim Thorpe . A year later, Thorpe was disqualified for playing baseball for money , which was a violation of amateur status. Thus Wieslander was subsequently declared an Olympic champion in 1913 . It wasn't until 1982 that Jim Thorpe was rehabilitated by the IOC and both Wieslander and Thorpe were designated Olympic champions in the decathlon at the 1912 Games.

On October 15, 1911 in Gothenburg Hugo Wieslander set the first world record in pentathlon with 5516 points .
