Cho-Liang Lin
Cho-Liang Lin (born January 29, 1960 in Hsinchu ) is an American violinist of Taiwanese origin.
Life
The son of a nuclear physicist began his violin training at the age of five. At the age of twelve he went to Australia, where he studied for three years in Sydney with Robert Pikler . After that, he was at the Juilliard School of Music student of Dorothy DeLay . In 1979 he made his debut at New York's Avery Fisher Hall . He made his European debut in 1981 under André Previn in London .
Then his international career began; he played with practically all major orchestras in the USA, Europe and the Far East. Lin teaches at the Juilliard School of Music and has been a member of the American Chamber Music Society since 1995 . In 1997 he founded the Taipei International Music Festival , the most important classical music festival in Taiwan. Musical America named him Instrumentalist of the Year in 2000; twice he was nominated for a Grammy .
Lin is particularly committed to contemporary music and has premiered works by the composers Tan Dun , Christopher Rouse and Esa-Pekka Salonen .
