Tom Pappas
Tom Pappas (born September 6, 1976 in Azalea , Oregon ) is a former American decathlete .
In college, he first played American football and baseball and also worked as a wrestler. Pappas, who is 1.96 m tall and weighed 93 kg when he was active, only turned to athletics at the age of 19 .
He first attracted international attention when he finished fifth at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney . His greatest success so far was winning the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis . After that he was considered one of the favorites for the gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . Due to an injury, however, he had to give up the competition there on the second day of the Olympic decathlon.
