Henrik Dagård (born August 7, 1969 in Halmstad ) is a former Swedish athlete who specialized in the decathlon .

Life

Dagård's first notable international result was his fourth place in the decathlon at the 1988 Junior World Championships in Greater Sudbury. In 1989 he was the first Swedish champion in this discipline. At the European Championships in 1990 in Split, he finished ninth, while he did not finish the competition at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo.

Dagård had its most successful period in the mid-1990s. In 1994 he won the silver medals in the heptathlon at the European Indoor Championships in Paris and in the decathlon at the European Championships in Helsinki . In the same year he achieved his best placement at this event with second place at the renowned Götzis all- around meeting . In 1995 he won the bronze medal in the heptathlon at the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona , while he was only 16th in the decathlon at the World Championships in Gothenburg .

In 1998 Dagård won his second decathlon title at the Swedish Championships. In the same year, however, he reached only 15th place at the European Championships in Budapest . At the 1999 World Championships in Seville, he was seventh. 2000 in Sydney he started for the first and only time at the Olympic Games and finished 10th.

Dagård's decathlon best of 8403 points, achieved in 1994 at the Décastar in Talence, was the Swedish record for almost 15 years before Nicklas Wiberg exceeded this mark by 3 points at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin.

After his active career, Dagård first became a fitness trainer at the Swedish football club IF Elfsborg , and later at Halmstads BK .
