history
Middle Ages and Early Modern Times
The Rieunette Monastery (Latin: Rivum nitidum ) flourished until the Wars of Religion in the 16th century. Then it suffered a lot, also from the Villelongue monastery , under whose protection it was, but with which it was in a long legal dispute, in the course of which the abbess Elisabeth de Lévi was murdered in the 17th century. In 1761 the monastery , which had meanwhile moved to Carcassonne , was closed and the nuns incorporated into the Lombez monastery .
20th and 21st centuries
In 1998, Sainte Marie de Rieunette was repopulated by the Boulaur monastery . In April 2015 the foundation started again with five nuns under Matron Marie-Lys de Laborie, spiritually accompanied by the abbess of Magerau Abbey and a monk from Dominus Tecum monastery in Pra 'd'Mill, Bagnolo Piemonte .
