history

In 1142, the Fontevraud Abbey founded a women's monastery at the “Guten Ort” (Latin bonus locus , Boulaur) southeast of Auch (and 12 kilometers south of Gimont Monastery ), which fell victim to the French Revolution in 1789 . It was repopulated by Fontevraud in the 19th century, but had to close again in 1904, this time as a result of the law separating church and state , which dissolved all monasteries. The third settlement came in 1949 through the cooperation of Alexis Presse , Abbot of Boquen Monastery (former Abbot of Tamié Monastery ), and the Benedictine Pia Le Thomas (1920-2009), who lived in a monastery according to the Benedictine rule of Cistercian ( i.e. neither Trappist nor Benedictine) ) Embossing in mind. With three co-sisters, Sister Pia began the project of the Sainte Marie de Boulaur monastery , in 1957 the monastery was attached to the Cistercian order , incorporated with full rights in 1964 and elevated to an abbey in 1990. The founder of the monastery and abbess died in 2009 after more than 60 years of service in Boulaur. In 2016 the monastery had 25 (mostly young) nuns. The Gregorian choir prayer is sung in Latin .

The Gothic monastery church from the 14th century has recently been structurally consolidated and the interior has been redesigned.

The remains of Claire de Castelbajac (born October 26, 1953, † January 22, 1975), whose beatification process has been initiated ( postulator is the abbess), are in the monastery .
