The Gimont (Gimundus) Monastery or Planselve (Plana silva) was a Cistercian abbey in the municipality of Gimont in the Gers department , Occitania region , in France . It was about 26 km east of Auch on the left bank of the Gimone river .
history
The Lord of Miremont, Géraud de Brouilh, and his wife, donated to the Berdoues monastery in 1142 an area on the bank of the river Gimone, on which they founded the monastery, which thus belonged to the filiation of the primary abbey of Morimond . The monks founded the bastides Gimont, Saint-Lys and Solomiac. The information on the establishment of subsidiaries in Spain varies (Peugniez indicates Bujedo and Juncaria). During the French Revolution , the monastery was dissolved, sold and partially demolished from 1802.
Buildings and plant
The church and the monk wing have not been preserved. There are still the surrounding wall, the gate house from the 17th and 18th centuries with seven grain silos in the floor, the ten-bay Konversenbau from the 12th century with some vaults from the earlier cloister and two pigeon houses with an ice cellar. The church of the Bastide of Gimont contains a small winged altar from the beginning of the 16th century from the monastery.
