The Poljud stadium in Split in 2010

The women's 4 x 400 meter relay at the 1990 European Athletics Championships was held on August 31 and September 1, 1990 in the Poljud Stadium in Split .

The GDR became European champions with the line-up of Manuela Derr , Annett Hesselbarth , Petra Schersing and Grit Breuer . Second place went to the Soviet Union with Jelena Vinogradowa , Lyudmyla Dschyhalowa , Jelena Rusina and Tatjana Ledowskaja as well as Marina Schmonina, who was also used in the run-up . Bronze went to Great Britain with Sally Gunnell , Jennifer Stoute , Patricia Beckford and Linda Keough as well as Angela Piggford, who was also used in the preliminary run .

The runners who were only used in the preliminary run also received the corresponding precious metal.
