Jelena Iwanowna Rusina ( Russian Елена Ивановна Рузина , English transcription Yelena Ruzina ; born April 3, 1964 in Voronezh ) is a former Russian sprinter who specialized in the 400-meter run and was internationally successful, especially as a relay runner.
Life
Starting for the Soviet Union, she won her first international medal at the 1990 European Championships in Split . In the 4 x 400 meter relay , she finished second behind the GDR and ahead of the British team in 3: 23.24 minutes together with Jelena Winogradowa , Lyudmyla Dschyhalowa and Tazzjana Ljadouskaja .
Rusina experienced the high point of her career two years later at the Olympic Games in Barcelona . In the 4 x 400 meter relay, the relay of the United Team of the CIS around Rusina, Lyudmyla Dschyhalowa, Olga Nazarova and Olha Wladykina-Bryshina secured the gold medal in 3: 20.20 minutes ahead of the teams of the USA and Great Britain. Rusina also started in Barcelona in the 400-meter run and reached the semi-finals.
At the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart , she celebrated another relay medal. The Russian team in the line-up of Rusina, Tatjana Alexejewa , Margarita Chromowa-Ponomarjowa and Irina Priwalowa had to admit defeat only the US-American relay in 3: 18.38 minutes. In the 400-meter run, Rusina narrowly missed the finals as fifth of her semi-final run.
In 1995 she won the title in the 4 x 400 meter relay at the World Indoor Championships in Barcelona . Together with Tatjana Tschebykina , Jekaterina Kulikowa and Svetlana Goncharenko , she relegated the Czech and US teams to their places in 3: 29.29 minutes.
