The men's 200-meter run at the 1998 European Athletics Championships was held on August 20 and 21, 1998 in the Népstadion in the Hungarian capital, Budapest .
In this competition, all three medals went to the sprinters from Great Britain. Douglas Walker was European champion ahead of Douglas Turner and Julian Golding .

Douglas initially took fourth place just behind Golding. The decision was made based on the target photo. When Douglas protested this ruling violently, he was eventually disqualified.
