The men's 200-meter run at the 1946 European Athletics Championships was held on August 24, 1946 in the Bislett Stadium in the Norwegian capital, Oslo .
Nikolai Karakulow from the Soviet Union became European champion . The Norwegian Haakon Tranberg won his second silver medal after the 100-meter run . Bronze went to the Czechoslovak Jiří David .

Notes on the world and European records:
- Jesse Owens set his world record on a straight track over the actually longer 220 yards . The IAAF made until 1950 in the recognition of world records not make the difference between straight lines and those with full curve like on a 400-meter track. Up until then, Jesse Owens, with his 20.7 seconds , was the fastest sprinter at the Olympic Games in Berlin on August 5, 1936, on a track with a full curve .
- Helmut Körnig also achieved his European record on a straight track.

The entire competition took place in one day. The preliminary runs (5:20 p.m.), semi-finals (6:20 p.m.) and the final (7:20 p.m.) took place on August 24, 1946.
