The men's 50-km walk at the 1998 European Athletics Championships was held on August 21, 1998 in the streets of the Hungarian capital, Budapest .

European champion was the Polish Olympic champion from 1996 , World Cup third from 1995 and world champion from 1997 Robert Korzeniowski . Second place went to the 1995 Finnish world champion Valentin Kononen . The Russian Andrei Plotnikow won the bronze medal.

There was no preliminary round, all 42 walkers went to the final together.

Result

The European champion Robert Korzeniowski won his second big title here and became one of the most successful walkers in athletics history
Mikel Odriozola came in fourth
Santiago Perez (right) finished sixth
