The men's 50 km walk at the 1982 European Athletics Championships was held on September 10, 1982 in the streets of Athens . The competition took place in extreme heat, with the result that eleven of the 24 participants gave up before reaching the goal. Two other athletes were disqualified, so that only eleven walkers were included in the ranking.

European champion was the Finn Reima Salonen . The Spanish winner of the 20 kilometer walk, José Marín , won the silver medal. Third place went to Bo Gustafsson from Sweden .

The existing EM record was not set at these European championships and was not improved.

There was no preliminary round here, all 24 walkers went to the final together.

The defending champion and Olympic runner-up in 1980 Jorge Llopart came in sixth this time
