Trond Nymark

Trond Nymark (born December 28, 1976 in Bergen ) is a former Norwegian athlete who was particularly successful in walking 50 km .

Nymark won his first national championship title in the 1990s. In 1997 and 1998 he became champion in the 10,000-meter track walking, in 1997 he also won the 20-kilometer distance. In 1998 and 1999 he was Norwegian champion over 50 kilometers and in 2000 again over 20 kilometers. In 2004 he won over 20 kilometers as well as over 50 kilometers and in 2005 he won again over 50 kilometers.

Internationally, Nymark was at the start at the World Championships in Seville in 1999 and Edmonton in 2001 , but never reached the finish. At the European Championships in 2002 , Nymark was able to place himself far ahead for the first time when he reached fifth place, but he was six minutes behind bronze. This was followed by an eighth place at the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis and a 13th place at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In 2005 he reached fourth place at the World Championships in Helsinki with a little over two minutes difference on bronze.

At the Walker World Cup on May 14, 2006 in A Coruña , Nymark improved his personal best to 3:41:30 hours and finished second behind the Russian Denis Nischegorodow . At the European Championships in 2006 Nischegorodow was disqualified, while Nymark looked like the sure winner for a long time. But in the end he lost his strength in a pure rain race, and he was overtaken by the French Yohann Diniz , the Spaniard Jesús Ángel García and the Russian Juri Andronow . Almost three minutes behind Diniz and almost a minute behind Andronow, Nymark took fourth place. In 2007, at the European Cup in Leamington Spa , Nymark came within a second of his best time from the previous year and was again second behind a Russian, this time it was Vladimir Kanaikin . At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, Nymark finished eighth. In 2008 Nymark was able to achieve a placement on the podium again with a third place at the World Cup, but at the Olympic Games in Beijing he did not reach the finish.

At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, he won the gold medal over 50 kilometers in a time of 3:41:16 hours ahead of the Spaniard Jesús Ángel García .

Nymark's 20-kilometer best time since 2004 is 1:22:52 hours. He is 1.80 m tall and weighs 64 kg.
