The women's 400 meter hurdles at the 1998 European Athletics Championships took place on August 19 and 21, 1998 in the Népstadion in the Hungarian capital, Budapest .
The European champion was the Romanian Ionela Târlea . The Ukrainian Tetiana Tereschchuk won the silver medal. Bronze went to Silvia Rieger, the German EM runner-up in 1994 .
