The men's 1500 meter run at the European Athletics Championships in 1966 was held on August 30 and September 1, 1966 in Budapest's Népstadion .
With gold and bronze, there were two medals for German runners. Bodo Tümmler became European champion . He won ahead of the French defending champion and European record holder Michel Jazy . Bronze went to Harald Norpoth .

Record improvement
In the second run, André De Hertoghe , who finished sixth in the final two days later, improved the existing EM record by a tenth of a second to 3: 40.7 minutes.
