The men's discus throw at the 2012 European Athletics Championships was played on June 29 and 30, 2012 in the Olympic Stadium in the Finnish capital Helsinki .

European champion of German double world champion (was 2009 / 2011 ), runner-up ( 2007 ) and Vice European Champion ( 2010 ) Robert Harting . Second place was taken by the Olympic champion 2008 , world champion in 2007 , runner-up of 2005 / 2011 , World Championship -Third of 2009 and Vice European Champion 2006 Gerd Kanter from Estonia. Bronze went to the Dutch third place in the 2007 World Cup, Rutger Smith, who had also won the silver medal in the shot put the day before .

doping

The Hungarian Zoltán Kővágó , who was initially third , was subsequently disqualified for violating the doping regulations and suspended for two years.

qualification

June 29, 2012, 9:00 a.m.

31 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for direct entry into the final was 64.80 m. Nine athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the three next placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 62.35 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
