Markus Münch (born June 13, 1986 in Hamburg ) is a former German discus thrower .

career path

After completing his studies in sports science, Münch was with the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr in Frankfurt an der Oder in 2012 . From October 2017, Münch started working as a trainer for the U16 and U18 age groups in the field of throw / impact at the Berlin Olympic Training Center.

Athletic career

In 2009 Münch won the European Winter Throwing Cup . At the World Championships in 2009 and 2011 as well as the European Championships in 2010 in the qualification, at the European Championships 2012 he reached the preliminary fight and finished ninth with 61.25 m.

At the German championships in 2009 and 2011, he finished second behind Robert Harting , and in 2010 and 2012 he was third behind Harting and Martin Wierig .

In 2017, Münch was third behind Robert Harting and Martin Wierig at the German Championships with 62.76 meters .

After 17 years of competitive sports, including 13 years in discus, Münch announced the end of his competitive sports career on December 29, 2017.

Best performance

Münch's best distance has been 66.87 m since June 25, 2011, which puts him in 16th place on the all-time German best list.

Club affiliations

The 2.07 meter tall Münch started until 2012 for the LG Wedel-Pinneberg and since 2013 for the SC Potsdam . Until 2010 he trained under Rolf Danneberg , the 1984 Olympic champion, from 2011 he was instructed by national coach Jürgen Schult , the 1988 Olympic champion.
