The discus throw men at the 2014 European Athletics Championships was on 12 and 13 August 2014 in the Letzigrund Stadium in Zurich held.

With the German defending champion Robert Harting , the dominant discus thrower was once again European champion. He came here as Olympic champion ( 2012 ), three-time world champion ( 2009 / 2011 / 2013 ), runner-up ( 2007 ) and Vice European Champion ( 2010 ). Silver went to the Estonian Gerd Kanter , who as the Olympic champion in 2008 , Olympic third of 2012, 2007 world champion, two-time runner-up ( 2005 /2011), two-time World Cup -Dritter (2009/2013) and two-time European Vice Champion ( 2006 /2012) also has a plurality of successes. The Pole Robert Urbanek won the bronze medal.

qualification

29 participants competed in two groups for the qualifying round. The qualification distance for the direct entry into the final was 64.00 m. Five athletes exceeded this mark (highlighted in light blue). The final field was filled with the seven next-placed athletes to twelve throwers (highlighted in light green). So finally 61.51 m had to be achieved to take part in the finals.
