Steffen Uliczka (born July 17, 1984 in Preetz in the Plön district ) is a German obstacle runner and marathon runner.

Life

He was German champion in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2014. His disqualification at the German Championships over 3000 meters in 2007 in Erfurt was controversial. Uliczka is said to have failed to properly guide his left foot over the obstacle several times. Because of this, Filmon Ghirmai became German champion, who however sharply criticized the disqualification himself and did not appear at the award ceremony.

This was followed by the XXIV Summer Universiade in Bangkok for which he was nominated by the General German University Sports Association. In a tactically smart final, he finished fourth. In 2009 he won the bronze medal at the Universiade. In Berlin he was eliminated from the World Championships in the same year. In 2010 he reached the finals at the European Championships in Helsinki and ran into sixth place.

In 2011 Uliczka took part in the World Championships in Daegu, but fell in the run-up. In 2012 he was tenth at the European Championships in Helsinki. A week later he improved his personal best in Liege and qualified for the Olympic Games in London, where he was eliminated in the preliminary stages.

He is 1.79 m tall and weighs 63 kg and starts for SG TSV Kronshagen / Kieler TB. Uliczka graduated from high school in 2004 and then began training as a banker at Kieler Volksbank , which he successfully completed in 2007. He is currently studying agricultural sciences at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel.

In 2007 Uliczka was awarded the Schleswig-Holstein sports badge .

In autumn 2014 Uliczka announced his move to the marathon distance. At the 42nd Berlin Half Marathon in April 2015, he came in 15th as the best German and was satisfied with this result as an intermediate result on the way to the marathon distance. In 2016 he ran the personal best time in the Berlin Marathon with 2:15:02 h.

In September 2016 Uliczka became the father of a boy.
