Marco Schmidt (born September 5, 1983 in Pforzheim ) is a German athlete .

Marco Schmidt became German runner-up in indoor shot put in February 2009 and thus qualified for the 2009 European Indoor Championships in Turin. There he was eliminated in qualification. At the European Indoor Championships 2011 , Schmidt finished fifth with 20.29 m. At the 2012 European Open Air Championships he also reached the final and finished eighth with 19.65 m. In 2013 Schmidt was seventh at the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg.

In addition to his success in athletics, Marco Schmidt is also the world record holder in the rock- throwing decathlon and three-time German champion in 50-kilogram rock-throwing.

Marco Schmidt starts for VfL Sindelfingen . His current best performance is the 7.26 kg ball at 20.51 m (May 28, 2011, Neubrandenburg). After graduating from high school, he completed an apprenticeship as a social security employee, and has been working at IKK classic in Stuttgart since 2009 . Since November 2013 he has been working at AOK Baden-Württemberg as an AOK business economist student.
