Marco Fortes (born September 26, 1982 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese shot putter .

Career

Fortes took part in the Junior World Championships in 2000, but could neither qualify in the shot put nor in the discus throw for the finals, in 2001 he won the bronze medal in the shot put at the Junior European Championships. In 2002 he pushed the ball 18.76 meters, but only improved this performance in 2007. In 2008 Fortes exceeded the 20-meter mark with 20.13 m and set his first Portuguese national record. At the 2008 Olympic Games he was eliminated at 18, 05 m in qualification. In 2010 he won the Ibero-American Championships with 20.69 m. At the European Indoor Championships in 2011 he reached the final fight and finished eighth with 19.83 m. Half a year later, Fortes finished sixth at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu with 20.83 m. In March 2012 he won the European winter throw in Montenegro and improved the Portuguese national record to 21.02 m.

Fortes is 1.89 m tall and starts for Benfica Lisbon .
