Wilma Anna Helena Murto (born June 11, 1998 in Kuusjoki , Salo ) is a Finnish pole vaulter .
Athletic career
Wilma Murto made her debut at an international championship at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Eugene at the age of 16. There she failed in qualification. In 2015 she set a new European youth record of 4.45 meters in the hall (this was improved by Lisa Gunnarsson in 2016 ). A year later, at an indoor meeting in Zweibrücken , she set a new Finnish record at 4.71 m and the current junior world record (as of May 2020).
At the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam , she took sixth place with 4.45 m. A week later, she won the bronze medal at the U20 World Athletics Championships in 2016 in Bydgoszcz, Poland, with a jump of 4.40 m. In contrast, she failed at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro with 4.30 m already in the qualification. In 2017 she achieved eighth place in the final at the European Indoor Championships with a jump of 4.40 m. At the U20 European Championships in Grosseto , Italy , Murto jumped 4.15 m and won the bronze medal. In 2018 she took part in the European Championships in Berlin and was eliminated there with 4.35 m in qualification, as well as at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow in 2019 , where she only crossed 4.10 m. Then she finished fifth at the U23 European Championships in Gävle with 4.20 m and failed at the World Championships in Doha with 4.35 m in the qualification .
In 2018 and 2019 Murto became Finnish outdoor champion and in 2019 and 2020 also indoor.
