Tina Šutej (born November 7, 1988 in Ljubljana , SR Slovenia , Yugoslavia ) is a Slovenian athlete who specializes in the pole vault .

Athletic career

Tina Šutej gained her first international experience in 2005 when she took fifth place at the European Youth Olympic Festival (EYOF) in Lignano with a jump of 3.85 m. Then she reached eighth place with 3.90 m at the Youth World Championships in Marrakech . The following year she won the silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Beijing with a height of 4.25 m and in 2007 she was eliminated from the qualification at the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham with 4.05 m. In 2009 she took part in the Mediterranean Games in Pescara for the first time , reaching fourth place with 4.20 m and then seventh at the Summer Universiade in Belgrade with 4.25 m. In addition, she finished fifth at the U23 European Championships in Kaunas with 4.25 m.

In 2010 she qualified for the first time for the European Championships in Barcelona and reached tenth place there with a jump of 4.35 m. In the following year she won the silver medal behind the Russian Alexandra Kirjaschowa at the student world games in Shenzhen with a height of 4.55 m . She also took part in the World Championships in Daegu , South Korea , but failed there with 4.40 m in qualification. Also at the European Championships in Helsinki in 2012 she did not reach the final with 4.15 m, but still managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in London , where she did not reach the final with 4.25 m . In the following year she was sixth at the Mediterranean Games in Mersin with 4.30 m and in 2014 she reached tenth place at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot with a skipped 4.55 m, as well as at the European Open Air Championships in Zurich with 4.35 m in the summer .

In 2015 she was eliminated from the qualification at the European Indoor Championships with 4.55 m and in the summer she again took part in the World Championships in Beijing, but was eliminated there without a valid attempt in the qualification . In the following year, she did not qualify at the European Championships in Amsterdam either, but managed to qualify again for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she reached the final this time and finished eleventh with 5.5 m . In 2017 she was eighth at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade with 4.40 m and was eliminated in the summer at the World Championships in London with 4.35 m in the qualification . In 2018 she won the silver medal behind the French Ninon Guillon-Romarin at the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona with a height of 4.41 m and then missed the final at the European Championships in Berlin with 4.20 m.

She also failed in qualifying at the European Indoor Championships in 2019 in Glasgow with 4.50 m, but reached the final at the World Championships in Doha , where she was ranked 13th with a jump of 4.50 m.

In the years 2006 and from 2008 to 2020 , Šutej was Slovenian champion in outdoor pole vault every year, and in 2006 and 2007, 2016 and 2017 as well as in 2019 indoor.
