Charlotte Purdue (born June 10, 1991 in Windsor ) is a British long-distance runner .

Life

Purdue was discovered at the age of eleven in a regional cross-country run by coach Mick Woods and then joined the Aldershot Athletics Club . In the youth sector, she initially celebrated numerous successes at national level. At the age of 15, she took part in the 2007 World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa and was the best European in the junior women's race in 15th place. In the same year she was at the European Athletics Junior Championships in Hengelo tenth in the 5000-meter run and third in the U20 age group at the European Cross Country Championships in Toro .

In 2008, Purdue again demonstrated her skills in cross-country running. In the junior class she reached 16th place at the Cross Country World Championships in Edinburgh and won the silver medal at the European Championships in Brussels . The following year she was fourteenth at the World Cross Country Championship in Amman . At the European Athletics Junior Championships in Novi Sad , she secured second place over 5000 m. She also won the English championships in 10 kilometer road running .

After a protracted knee injury that she sustained in late 2009, Purdue returned to competition in the summer of 2010 and became English champion in the 5000 m. At the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi , she completed her first major international championships in the adult field at the age of 19. There she finished fourth over 10,000 m and sixth over 5000 m. At the European Cross Country Championships in Albufeira , she started again in the junior women's race and won the gold medal.

At the 2011 World Cross Country Championships in Punta Umbria, Purdue came 14th as the best European. The following month she won the Great Ireland Run , and that fall, she finished fourth in the Great South Run .

In 2012 she finished second in the Great Ireland Run.
