Cross Country World Championships 2008
The 36th IAAF World Cross Country Championships the IAAF (official 36th IAAF World Cross Country Championships ) took place on 30th March 2008 in Edinburgh ( Scotland , UK ) instead.
course
The venue was Holyrood Park, in which a two-kilometer loop had been created, with the shortened version of which the ascent to Haggis Knowe (approx. 15 meters in altitude ) was omitted. The men completed two small and four large laps (12 km), the women and juniors two large and two small laps (7.905 km) and the juniors one small and two large laps.
Competitions
The total prize pool for the adult competitions was $ 280,000, of which $ 30,000 was awarded to the winners of each race and $ 20,000 to each winning team. Over 17,000 spectators attended the races. The weather was cold, at times rainy and gusty.

Out of 165 registered athletes, 179 started and 165 were classified. One runner was disqualified on the spot, while Algerian Fathi Meftah was subsequently deprived of 35th place for a doping offense .
As the only participant from a German-speaking country, the Swiss Ueli Koch came in 133rd place (39:12).
