Benita Willis
Benita Willis ( Benita Jaye Willis, starting from 2002 to 2009 under the name Benita Johnson ; born May 6, 1979 in Mackay ) is an Australian long-distance runner .
Her first successes were on the track, where she broke the current Oceania records over 3000 meters (8: 38.06 min on July 13, 2003 in Gateshead ), 5000 meters (14: 47.60 min on September 6, 2002 in Berlin ) and 10,000 meters (30: 37.68 min as eighth at the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis ).
In addition to winning the World Cross Country Championships in 2004 , she achieved success in the half marathon : She was third in the World Half Marathon Championships in 2003 and won the Great North Run in 2004 in 1:07:55 h. The full-distance debut in the New York City Marathon of the same year was disappointing, however. She was fourteenth in 2:38:03 h.
In 2005 she finished sixth in the London Marathon in 2:26:32 h. In 2006, she set a record in Australian 10-km road race (31:17 min) and improved as a third of the Chicago Marathon 18-year-old Ozeanienrekord in Marathon from Lisa Martin-Ondieki in 2:22:36 hours.
In 2007 she won the Berlin half marathon in 1:08:28 h.
