Joseph Ebuya (born June 20, 1987 in Baragoi , Nyandarua District , Central Province ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Life

In 2006 he was fourth in the junior race of the World Cross Country Championships and at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne over 5000 meters . In the same year he won bronze over 5000 meters and silver over 10,000 meters at the Junior World Championships in Beijing .

At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka , he was eliminated over 5000 meters in the preliminary run. The following year he finished fourth in the senior races of the Cross Country World Championships and won gold with the Kenyan team. He finished third in the Parelloop before retiring from athletics for ten months in the middle of the year because of basic training in the Kenyan army. At the 2009 World Championships in Berlin , he finished 13th over 5000 meters.

In 2010 he first defeated Kenenisa Bekele at the Great Edinburgh International Cross Country and then won the title at the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz . In autumn he set a course record of 45:16 minutes at the Great South Run over 10  miles .

After a three-year break due to injury, Joseph Ebuya wants to start at the 2019 World Cross Country Championships in Denmark in March .

Private

Joseph Ebuya comes from a family with eight children and is a member of the Kenyan armed forces. He is looked after by PACE Sports Management .
His younger sister Alice Aprot Nawowuna (* 1994) is also successful as a long-distance runner.
