Life

She started running after middle school in hopes of receiving a scholarship to the United States. Although this did not materialize, she was nominated for the World Junior Athletics Championships in Beijing in 2006, where she won silver in the 5000 meter run .

The following year she was fifth at the Cross Country World Championships in Mombasa and won the silver medal with the Kenyan team. She withdrew from a successful track season in which she improved her 5000 meter time to 14: 40.74 minutes because of a pregnancy. After giving birth to a daughter in March 2008, she returned to the 2008/09 cross-country running season. A victory in the Kenyan elimination race for the World Championships was followed by the gold medal at the Cross Country World Championships in Amman , where she prevailed on the final climb against her compatriot Linet Chepkwemoi Masai . At the World Athletics Championships in Berlin , she was twelfth in the 10,000 meter run .

In 2010 she won the Lille half marathon on her debut over this distance . Just over a month later, she won the title at the World Half Marathon Championships in Nanning. In 2011, she started the Boston Marathon for the first time over the 42.195 km distance, but had to give up. After triumphs in the Sapporo half marathon and the Carinthia half marathon , she managed a start-to-finish victory in the Berlin marathon , defeating Irina Mikitenko and world record holder Paula Radcliffe .

In 2013 she won the Berlin Marathon for the second time after 2011 in 2:21:13 h . On February 16, 2014, Kiplagat achieved her greatest success so far when she improved the previous half marathon world record by 38 seconds at the Barcelona half marathon in 1:05:12 h.
