Moses Cheruiyot Mosop (born July 17, 1985 in Kamasia near Kapsowar , Marakwet District ) is a Kenyan long-distance runner .

Life

He had his first international successes in the junior races of the Cross Country World Championships, in which he was tenth in Dublin in 2002 and seventh in Avenches in 2003 .

In 2004 he qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens , where he was seventh in the 10,000 meter run , and was second in the Zevenheuvelenloop over 15 km.

At the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2005 he won bronze over 10,000 m, in 2006 he became national champion over the same distance, and at the 2007 World Cross Country Championships in Mombasa he won silver.

In 2007 and 2008 he won the Giro al Sas . In 2009 he was eleventh at the Cross Country World Championships in Amman and won the Giro Media Blenio . In 2010 he triumphed at the Stramilano , finished tenth at the World Half Marathon Championships in Nanning and sixth at the Zevenheuvelenloop.

In 2011, after finishing second in the Paris Half Marathon , he started a race over the 42.195 km distance for the first time. At the Boston Marathon , he fought a duel with Geoffrey Kiprono Mutai . Supported by a strong tailwind, both remained with 2:03:02 h (Mutai) and 2:03:06 h (Mosop) by almost three minutes below the old course record and achieved the fastest times ever; however, since the Boston route is not subject to the best list because of its oversized gradient, it was not recognized as a world record.

At the beginning of June, however, he succeeded in entering the world record lists at the Prefontaine Classic . He broke Toshihiko Seko's 30-year-old record over the rarely held distance of 30,000 m . Even with the 25,000 meter split, he was well below Seko's record time. In the fall, he won the Chicago Marathon .

In 2012 he finished sixth in the Paris Half Marathon . In the Rotterdam Marathon he was more than half a minute faster than in Chicago with 2:05:03 hours, but was beaten by the Ethiopians Yemane Tsegay and Getu Feleke . Nevertheless, he was nominated for the 2012 Olympic Games by the Kenyan Association alongside London marathon winner Wilson Kipsang and world champion Abel Kirui .

Moses Cheruiyot Mosop is married to Florence Jebet Kiplagat , the 2009 World Cross Country Champion.
