Éva Orbán (born November 29, 1984 in Pápa ) is a Hungarian athlete who specializes in hammer throwing.
Athletic career
Éva Orbán gained her first international experience in 1999 when she was eliminated from the qualification at the World Youth Championships in Bydgoszcz with a width of 46.03 m. In 2002 she took part in the Junior World Championships in Kingston , but did not make a valid attempt there. The following year she finished sixth at the Junior European Championships in Tampere with 62.33 m. In 2004 she qualified for the first time for the Olympic Games in Athens , but did not reach the final with 65.76 m . In 2005 she reached eleventh place at the U23 European Championships in Erfurt with 57.26 m and then retired from the qualification at the World Championships in Helsinki with 64.26 m. In 2006 she missed the finals at the European Championships in Gothenburg with 62.55 m and in 2007 she took part in the Summer Universiade in Bangkok for the first time, reaching twelfth place with a width of 60.19 m. The following year she took part again in the Olympic Games in Beijing , but retired again with 65.41 m in the qualification .
In 2009 she was eliminated from the qualification at the World Championships in Berlin with 69.39 m and the following year she finished eleventh in the final at the European Championships in Barcelona with 64.99 m. In 2011 she again took part in the Student World Games in Shenzhen , where she won the gold medal with a throw of 71.33 m after the original winner Zalina Petrivskaia from the Republic of Moldova was subsequently disqualified for a doping violation. So she qualified again for the World Championships in Daegu , where she was eliminated with 68.89 m in qualification. In 2012 she was seventh at the European Championships in Helsinki with 67.92 m and then missed the finals at her third Olympic Games in London with 68.64 m .
In 2013 she set a new national record at the Halle Throwing Days with 73.44 m and then reached sixth place at the World Championships in Moscow with 72.70 m. The following year she made it to the finals at the European Championships in Zurich , but failed to make a valid attempt there. In 2015, she was eliminated from the qualification at the World Championships in Beijing with 64.57 m . At the European Championships in Amsterdam in 2016 , 65.86 m was not enough to reach the finals and again in 2018 she failed at the European Championships in Berlin with 59.16 m in the preliminary round.
In 2005 and 2006, from 2008 to 2011 and from 2013 to 2015 Orbán was the Hungarian hammer throw champion.
