Sophie Hitchon (born July 11, 1991 in Burnley ) is a British hammer thrower .

Athletic career

In 2009 she won bronze at the Junior European Championships in Novi Sad , and in 2010 she won the Junior World Championships in Moncton . In 2011 she won bronze at the U23 European Championships in Ostrava and was eliminated from the qualification at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu .

The following year she was tenth at the European Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 2012 and twelfth at the Olympic Games in London . In 2013, a victory at the U23 European Championships in Tampere was followed by another preliminary round at the World Cup in Moscow . In 2014 she won bronze for England at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow . At the European Championships in Zurich , she failed in qualifying.

At the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, she was fourth with the British record of 73.86 m. In 2016 she took fourth place at the European Championships . She also won the bronze medal at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

So far she has been British champion four times (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015).
