Alena Aljaksandrauna Sobalewa , b. Nawahrodskaja ( Belarusian Алена Аляксандраўна Собалева (Навагродская) , English transcription Alena Sobaleva (Navahrodskaya) ; born May 11, 1993 in Lassosna ) is a Belarusian hammer thrower .

Athletic career

Sobalewa was active in various throwing disciplines in her youth, but eventually specialized in hammer throwing. She gained her first international experience at the 2009 Youth World Championships in Brixen , where she finished eleventh in the final. A few weeks later she was fourth at the European Youth Olympic Festival. In 2010 she won the silver medal at the first ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore, behind the French Alexia Sedykh . In 2011 she narrowly missed a medal at the 2011 European Junior Championships in Tallinn . A year later she won the bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona . In 2013 she took part in the U23 European Championships in Tampere , where she finished sixth with 66.10 m.

In 2014 she qualified for the European Championships in Zurich , but was eliminated from the qualification without a valid attempt. In 2015 she won the silver medal at the U23 European Championships in Tallinn with 71.20 m. She also took part in the World Championships in Beijing , where she finished tenth in the final . In 2016 she took part again in the European Championships in Amsterdam , but dropped out again in the qualification. She also took part in the Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , but could not qualify for the final there .

So far she has been twice the Belarusian champion. Until 2015 she started under her maiden name Alena Nawahrodskaja.
