The Biberach Beavers are an American football team from Biberach an der Riss that was founded in 1991 and will play in the Regionalliga Südwest in the 2018 season. The football team is an independent department (American Football & Cheerleading) of the TG Biberach 1847 e. V. and thus belongs to one of the largest sports clubs in Baden-Württemberg.

history

The beginning times

It was the enthusiasm for the American popular sport of some young people who, after a stay abroad in the USA, met with some interested Biberach fans in 1990 and thus initiated the beginning of American football in Biberach.

The Biberach Beavers were founded in 1991 by some football enthusiasts. Regular game operations began in 1992. The Biberach Beavers belong to the American Football and Cheerleading Association Baden-Württemberg e. V. (AFCVBW) .

Just one year after it was founded, in 1992 the Biberach Beavers first took part in the league operations of the Baden-Württemberg American Football Association. The first game of the season in the history of the Biberach Beavers was played on May 17, 1992.

After a few years without any notable sporting success within the history of the American football club from Biberach, after a three-year break in operations in 1998, it was time to establish a new structure and a success-oriented realignment of the Biberach Beavers.

The 2000s

It still took some time until the necessary structures were implemented and the first sporting successes became apparent. After a narrowly missed promotion in 2011, it became apparent that American football in Biberach had meanwhile reached the required level of performance.

In the following year, the Biberach Beavers achieved their longed-for sporting breakthrough. With the placement on the first place in the table, the Biberach Beavers secured the first championship title in the district league in 2012 (Baden-Württemberg) and thus the greatest sporting success in the club's history to date.

Just one year later, the American footballers from Biberach achieved another sporting sensation as they were promoted to the 5th Baden-Württemberg league. The Biberach Beavers won the championship title in the 2013 state league (Baden-Württemberg).

For the first time in the club's history, the Biberach Beavers Seniors played in 2014 in the highest Baden-Württemberg league to date. As a newcomer they got 9 wins with only 3 defeats, two of which were lost to the later champions Pforzheim Wilddogs . The Beavers reached the runner-up in 2014 in the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg.

The 2015 season ended the Biberach Beavers with 5 wins and 7 losses in 5th place in the table. The jump to 3rd place was missed in the last game by a 20:21 home defeat against the Red Knights Tübingen .

In the 2016 season, the Biberach Beavers will take part in the league operations of the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg for the third year in a row. The season ended with 5 wins and 7 losses in 5th place. The highlight was the 42:44 defeat at the later champions, the Karlsruhe Engineers .

The 2017 season began with a change in the coaching position. The previous Defense Coordinator Dominik Brodschelm took over the head coach position from long-time coach Fabian Birkholz, who switched to the German Football League as head coach for the Stuttgart Scorpions . The American Michael van Deripe was signed as the new quarterback. Biberach was unbeaten champion in the 2017 Oberliga season with 9 wins. They had the best offense and defense in the league. In the fourth year, the longed-for promotion to the third-class Regionalliga Südwest, newly founded in 2016, finally succeeded.

In 2017, the head of department and management decided to change the logo to three colors and no shading (blue, yellow, white).

On the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the Beaverettes cheerleaders, the 2018 annual general meeting decided to change the name of the department from "American Football" to "American Football & Cheerleading".

In 2018, the Biberach Beavers will play for the first time in the club's history in Germany's third-highest division, the Regionalliga Südwest. The departure of long-time running back Alexander Funk to the Munich Cowboys in the German Football League was offset by US import Spencer Payne. As a climber, the Beavers managed to win the championship. The promotion to the German Football League 2 was made perfect by victories over the champions of the Regionalliga Süd the Fursty Razorbacks (34:33) and the champions of the Regionalliga Mitte Darmstadt Diamonds (31:15). With 1680 spectators, a new home game attendance record was set in the second relegation game against Darmstadt on September 22, 2018. In the 2019 season, Biberach plays in the 2nd Bundesliga South.
