The Frankfurt Pirates are an American football team from Frankfurt am Main that will play in GFL2 in 2020.

history

In 1990 the Frankfurt Pirates (German: Frankfurter Piraten) were founded with the aim of establishing American sports in the Rhine-Main area . In the beginning there was a baseball and a softball team, which were followed by three youth basketball teams in the following years . Then in 1997 the American Football division was launched. This currently consists of a men's and several youth teams.

Men's

The men's team took part in league games for the first time in 1998 in the Landesliga des AFV Hessen e. V. and have since been two-time Hessen champions and two-time runner-ups.

In 2002 the A youth team for 16 to 18 year olds was founded, which currently plays in the Middle Regional League.

In 2005 the B youth team was created, in which young people between the ages of 13-16 play. Since the youth B season always takes place in autumn, the youths have the opportunity to play in the youth A and C, depending on their age.

Flag youth

The flag team was founded in autumn 2002 and quickly made a name for itself in spring 2003 with victories in indoor bowls. The following years were crowned with further successes. When the AFVD introduced a C-tackle league in 2011, the Frankfurt Pirates decided to dissolve the flag youth and provide a C-tackle team.

Cheerleading

At the same time as the football department was founded, the cheerleading department was launched in 1997.

It currently consists of three groups:

  • (12–30 years) Senior and Junior Cheer
  • (8-11 years old) PeeWee
  • (16–30 years) senior dance team

In addition to appearing at all Frankfurt Pirates football games, the cheerleaders are at various shows at sponsors and other events, e.g. B. Museumsuferfest or Klaa Paris to see.

  • 2002 - 2nd Vice-Hesse Champion Senior Dance
  • 2003 - Hessian bronze champion for the all-girl youth team
  • 2004 - Hessian bronze champion for the all-girl youth team

  • 2008 - 2nd place for the senior cheer team

Stadion

The Frankfurt Pirates played until May 13, 2018 on the sports field Uni Campus Westend / Philipp-Holzmann-Schule, a natural grass field with a spectator capacity of 2,500. In 2013 around 6,680 spectators came to the home games of the pirates, the average was around 954 spectators. The home game on June 22, 2013, was played in the Frankfurt Commerzbank-Arena against city rivals Universe Frankfurt . 5,300 American football fans attended this first "Frankfurt Bembel". The pirates have been playing on the Nieder-Eschbach sports field since July 22, 2018.
