Filippo Tortu (born June 15, 1998 in Milan ) is an Italian sprinter .

Athletic career

Filippo Tortu gained his first international experience at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing , where he reached the final over 200 meters , but did not compete there. In 2016 he took part in the European Championships in Amsterdam and was eliminated there with 10.19 seconds in the semi-finals over 100 meters . In addition, he reached the final with the Italian 4 x 100 meter relay and finished fifth there in 38.69 s. He then took part in the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz , where he won the silver medal in the 100-meter run behind the American Noah Lyles in 10.24 s and finished seventh with the Italian relay in 40.02 s . At the IAAF World Relays 2017 in the Bahamas , the relay was disqualified in the run-up. In June 2017 Tortu won the gold medal over 100 meters at the U20 European Championships in Grosseto with a time of 10.73 s and silver with the relay in 39.50 s, in which the Italians only had to admit defeat to the German team. Over 200 meters, however, he qualified for the World Championships in London was eliminated there with 20.62 s in the semifinals .

In 2018, at the traditional meeting in Madrid, he improved Pietro Mennea's Italian 100-meter record by a hundredth of a second to 9.99 s, making him only the third white sprinter to break the 10-second barrier . At the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona , he won the gold medal with the Italian relay in 38.49 s. At the European Championships in Berlin he reached fifth place in the 100 meter final with 10.08 seconds.

Tortu became the Italian 100-meter champion in 2016.
