Jan Veleba (born December 6, 1986 in Brno , ČSSR ) is a Czech sprinter who specializes in the 100-meter run .

Athletic career

Jan Veleba gained his first experience at international championships in 2010 when he was eliminated from the European championships in Barcelona in the 100 meter run with 10.68 seconds in the first round. The following year he took part in the 60-meter run at the European Indoor Championships in Paris , where he reached the semifinals, in which he was eliminated with 6.71 s. In 2012 he reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Helsinki over 100 meters and was eliminated there with 10.60 seconds. In addition, he also competed with the Czech 4 x 100 meter relay and also reached the final, in which the relay did not end its run. Two years later he reached the semi-finals at the European Championships in Zurich over 100 meters and was eliminated there with 10.38 seconds. Also at the European Athletics Indoor Championships 2015 in Prague he was eliminated over 60 meters with 6.74 s in the semi-finals, as well as at the European Championships 2016 in Amsterdam over 100 meters with 10.28 s.

In 2017 he reached the semi-finals at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade over 60 meters, in which he was eliminated with 6.80 s and in 2018 he failed at the European Championships in Berlin over 100 meters with 10.52 s in the first round and achieved that with the relay Finale, but did not start there. At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama , he then retired with 38.77 seconds in the preliminary round.

In 2010, 2014, 2016, 2019 and 2020 Veleba was the Czech champion in the 100-meter run and in 2016 also in the 4-by-100-meter relay. In 2011, 2013 and from 2015 to 2017 he won the 60-meter run indoors.
