Emre Zafer Barnes (born November 7, 1988 as Winston Barnes ) is a Turkish sprinter of Jamaican origin who has been eligible to start for Turkey since 2016.

Athletic career

Emre Zafer Barnes gained his first international experience at the CARIFTA Games 2004 in Hamilton , where he won the bronze medal over 200 meters with 22.02 seconds. Two years later he finished fourth in the 100 meter run at the CARIFTA Games in Les Abymes in 10.69 seconds . As a result, he did not take part in any international competitions for ten years before he started for Turkey. In 2016 he took part in the European Championships in Amsterdam and was eliminated there with 10.31 seconds in the semi-finals over 100 meters. With the relay, he also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where she was eliminated with 38.30 s in the lead . In 2017 he won the silver medal with the relay at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku and finished sixth over 100 meters in 10.45 s. At the World Championships in London he reached the semi-finals over 100 meters and was eliminated there with 10.27 s. With the relay, he was able to qualify for the finals , where he finished seventh in 38.73 s.

In 2018 Barnes took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where he finished eighth over 60 meters in 6.64 s. At the Mediterranean Games in Tarragona , he won the silver medal in the 100-meter run behind his compatriot Jak Ali Harvey in 10.32 s and silver with the relay, which only had to admit defeat to the Italians. He qualified again over 100 meters for the European Championships in Berlin and enlivened the seventh place in the final with 10.29 seconds. With the Turkish 4 x 100 meter relay, he won the silver medal in a national record time of 37.98 s.

In 2018 Barnes became Turkish indoor champion over 60 meters.
